Short with the 12Volt line coming into the stereo, 2005 Grand Marquis

Asked by RyyyyyGuyyyyy Nov 25, 2016 at 09:20 PM about the 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The factory stereo worked well, but I wanted an after market solution.  I
removed the factory stereo, and matched the pigtail of the aftermarket Dual
stereo, color for color, to the adapter pigtail.  This worked well for 3 days
until it stopped without any other symptom.  I replaced the factory stereo
and now it also does not work.  Wiper, windows AC, interior light, and all
other electrical works that I am aware of.  I believe that I've replaced all
fuses. I am concerned that I may have shorted the 12V supply with other
wires in the pigtail.  Any guidance on how to further trouble shoot this?

First of all Dual is a very low quality brand of automotive electronics. Check fuse number 29 in the fuse box that is inside the passenger compartment. 15 amp "Audio" fuse. Fuse box is located near the steering column under the dash.
