4.0 engine swap
I have a 92 4x4 explorer automatic with the 4.0. Its got some rods
knocking pretty good. Today i was given a 91 ranger 5 speed 2x4 with the
4.0. I'm wanting to put the motor from the ranger into the explorer. Just
wondering if will be a easy swap? Thoughts please

The engine should swap easily. The pushrod engine was in both. The 4.0 SOHC was not offered until 99.

It will match and it would be wise to have a haynes manual by hand. The haynes explains step by step how to and was very helpful to me when i changed my 2000 engine. Mrredtruck!

Yes l have 1996 explorer motor in a 2004. Explorer moter mount went rite on crank sensor wint on knock sensor is on the front head. pickup tube and egr came off went on the 96 wear the wiring can go on. And made a pickup tube to the plenum it all wire control. Throttle plate drilled holes out to make the hole work on the 96. Platinum intakes..96 ac pump and lines grind out ac pump to fit around the thotollplat. And save line off the 96. To tape in to the 2004 ac. Line on the ac can line.. came sincere is a 3 cape go get th 2 cape and wire plug in and save the screws frome the 3 cap and wire it up. And undo the wiring to move it ware it needs to go. And thermos gage with the to prong on it plug in .mufler adaptors. And a fill retin line wite Fillpreser sensor inline
