Car drove fine until 10 hours ago, no it won't attempt to crank over

Asked by Lincolnmarkviii Apr 02, 2018 at 08:29 PM about the 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

All of the interior lights come on like normal,
everything works electronically inside the car. Just
when I try to start it there is absolutely nothing. Not
even a clicking noise. There was no check engine
light before this happened. How can I troubleshoot
this issue and what could it be? Btw the car has
130,000 miles.

Clean the battery terminals, just in case. Do lights dim when trying to start? Starter relay, is another possibility, I think it's underneath, but not sure. Try wiggling the shift, try in neutral, and park. Can you move it out of park? (stop light switch).

Dead battery, corroded bat cables/terminals. Maybe the alternator's not working? Not charging battery, or battery is shot. Put a charger on it overnight. Jumping may or may not work.
