New motor

What engine did it have? 4.6? There's about a billion of those out there, can pick one up at a salvage yard for a few hundred bucks, some salvage yards will even install engines and give you a limited warranty.
Yes it was a 4.6 and I will look up the closest salvage yards thanks! But are there any other years of the grand marquis that I could use?
Because minor changes in throttle body design, sensors, or tranny controls and gear ratios, you want one as close to your year as possible to avoid having to swap out ECU as well. If you plan on letting a lot or shop change the motor out, then they'll (hopefully) know what years they can use and what other parts may be needed (ECU, wire harnesses, etc.) If the ECU needs to be reflashed to accommodate the new motor they should also take care of that.
