purchased a Mitsubishi Eclipse 2005 2.4 engine and they sent a 2000. the seller claims they are the same but mechanic having problems

purchased 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse engine and received a 2000.
both are 2.4.seller says they are the same. mechanic says that coils and timing
are different.Will it work with same trans.What modifications are needed?

Your mechanic will have to figure it out. Maybe he can use parts off the other engine to convert the old engine to 2005 spec, maybe, maybe not.
