My fuel gauge has gone from 3/4 to full several days after filling up

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor. I filled up my gas tank about 4 days ago and havent
driven too much since then. This afternoon I noted that my gauge was reading about 3/4
full but when I was driving it tonight I noticed the gauge was back at full and was not
fluctuating at all. What are the possible issues? I've been researching a bit but haven't
found any information for a gauge that goes up several days after filling.

myeah...could be....thermal expansion~
sound to me like your fuel guage sender isn't working correctly
I was thinking that might be it but was under the impression that once that malfunctions it sticks wherever and doesn't move. This morning I noticed that my gauge is now just below the full line. So it is moving down as it normally would, except I didn't fill up yesterday. Could it still be that?

yes...Mitsubishi isn't particularly known for superior stuff, so yes, the tank sender is wumpus----smelly gassy thing to fix, if you have the time and money...as long as there is SOME gas and you can make it to a station, that's all you really need to know...if complete failure, a notepad where the odometer can be recorded at each fillup, go 150 miles and fill up again...you don't really need that thing anyways~

http://www.carid.com/2006-mitsubishi-endeavor-fuel-delivery- parts/item-8830631.html ....if we are lucky can remove a simple access cover above the pump/sender (yes they stick 'em together)....not lucky will have to get under there and drop the tank~

the damned link ain't goin' thru..see what they are making us do~
Update: I waited until today to fill up so I could monitor the gauge and keep track of how much I've driven. Oddly enough, it topped off at only 4 gallons. Putting me past the Full line. It appears that it really was full and the only explanation I can think of was that someone filled up my tank while I was at work? I have no idea. I'm still pretty perplexed.
