How determine which o2sensor needs to be replaced on my 2003 mitsubishi eclipse

I don't know if its the upstream or downstream o2 sensor that went bad

you should have a check engine light, read the code and it should tell you which one is having a problem. also, there are youtube vids on how to test them.
