The problem is when I put anti freeze in the reserve tank it runs right out.

Asked by uncovangel Oct 11, 2015 at 11:27 AM about the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 XLS montero Mitsusbishi.  The engine light isn't on and it
doesn't over heat. It runs, sounds great. It started losing coolant and within
days when I put anti freeze in the reserve tank it runs right out.  I have
been to three shops and all say it a done deal, get rid of the car,  but can't
tell me why. Any help here?  I love my car but no one seems to want to
work on them.

Do you see any antifreeze on the ground where you park? Does any white smoke come from the tail pipe? do you smell antifreeze when you stop a light? What you need to do is go to a garage, have them pressure test your cooling system, if that don't work have them put d dye in the coolant and drive it a day and bring it back to look for the dye with a black light. If this fails to give you the answer then you could do a block test, so that if any exhaust gasses are getting into the cooling system you know it would be a head gasket leak. check your oil to see if its not going there either.

I do see antifreeze on the ground where I park. No white smoke from tail pipe, no smell of antifreeze when I stop at a light. Pressure test was done. No coolant in oil. Thank you so very much.
