Not necessarily. It does mean that the engine is setting an OBD trouble code, so get the code read somewhere, then you'll know exactly what it needs. (Could just be a loose gas cap.) Most auto parts stores will read the codes for free.

It might need a tuneup. Old spark plugs could make it misfire. Like Ken says have the codes read.
