Going up hill and the speed dropped badly??? Is your diagnosis of a slipping clutch defintely the cause?- - with the appropriate symptoms of a slipping clutch present??? (disengagement of power train, momentary racing of engine in the absence of engagement, maybe grinding of gears, but for sure some jerky moments as the clutch re- connects motor with transmission) If this IS correct, there is NO CHOICE but to replace it, UNLESS there is some room for ADJUSTMENT of the clutch, which there very well may be if you have not previously had it adjusted. Ask the mechanic if he can ADJUST the clutch for you, and he should tell you after checking it out IF there is no room left for adjustment. Then, good luck on finding a clutch for this car at a fair price, and call ALL the parts stores in your area for comparisons. Hopefully you've done got it fixed by now! (just looked at the date)
