a band new crate motor would be about 4 grand, for 1200 you could get a junk yard 2.0l w/ a stock turbo if you could find one, you could also get a non turbo gs 2.0l for 600 then convert it to a turbo, this would be the best route because you could pick out your turbo and intercooler, the stock turbos are junk in my opinion, if you get a junk yard engine that needs a rebuild that would cost about 800 for the parts or straight up 2 grand to have it done somewhere i had a 90 gs, with a garett t3 turbo at 20psi, it gave me about 90 extra hp, the thing was amazing until it met a concrete wall....

u can only turbo it if the engine is DOHC and the turbo needs to run off an intercooler and u would need a turbo manifold.. the 92 gs 2.0 DOHC 16v engine is the best if u want custom to customize. it has the slot and bracket to place and bolt on the intercooler and even extra threads in the block if u wanted to add an oil cooling sytem, and could even be changed from auto to stick. the gst and gsx's stock turbos had 2 waste ports 1 leading directly to the exhaust flange(pipes) the other to the intercooler then the intercooler shot the air back into the intake manifold, but had another inlet that connected to the air filter. you will not be able to do this with a custom turbo. now a days the have just 1 inlet that runs to the intercool and the 1 outlet that forced the hot air from the exhaust manifold through the turbo then out to the exhaust flange. overall the DOHC 4 cylinder engine that had this many options on the factory engine

to answer your question though, a cheap weak turbo u can get for as little as $150 but then going as high as $1000 for the turbo alone. u would also need to buy oil feeding and return lines as well as water feeding and return hoses. after that u would need the intercooler. cheap intercoolers with aluminum hoses can be as little as $150, i would reccomend using steel hoses because it could withstand more heat and wont crack as easy as aluminum. or just get a complete turbo kit for about $1,500 to $5,000 for everything. check out ebay they have some. I own a 92 eclipse gs 2.0 DOHC 16v 4g63 engine, auto, non-turbocharged. a very difficult engine to work on but at the top of its class. proven fact. have fun
