crankshaft/camshaft
1 Answer
No, they are two very different things. The crankshaft is a mechanical part able to perform a conversion between reciprocating motion and rotational motion. The camshaft is a shaft to which a cam is fastened or of which a cam forms an integral part. In internal combustion engines with pistons, the camshaft is used to operate poppet valves. The only way the crankshaft and camshaft are related is though engine timing. The crankshaft and camshaft must be perfectly timed for the engine to run smoothly and efficiently.
