Depending upon your model type, the V6 is capable of 3500 lbs. (factory estimated). But this is really considering a well maintained engine and minor wear and tear. Hopefully your camper isn't much more than 1 ton.

I have seen online (factory specifications) that the newer (2007-2011) V6 XterraS can tow 5000 lbs. and that is what a local dealer is also telling me. I have a 12 ft. 2 horse 2 axle trailer and would be towing 4700 lbs. fully loaded. So it would not be capable of towing the trailer with 2 horses up steep hills in my state? Thank you

With the proper towing equipment(or tow package) and trailer brakes, your Xterra should be able to tow 5000 pounds.
