Exhaust System

Asked by Lexus98Owner May 23, 2008 at 11:39 PM about the 1998 Lexus ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I appear to have a leak in the exhaust system.  It's in a "mesh" pipe that is a dual pipe and appears to be the transition point between the exhaust manifold and the rest of the exhaust system.  What's the name of this pipe (it's held on by 2 flanges connecting to the exhaust manifold going into 1 pipe to the exhaust system)?  Recommendations on where to buy a replacement pipe?  Thanks.

It's called a flex pipe. Very important. I allows the engine to rock back and forth without moving the entire exhaust system with it. You should be able to get it replace at an exhaust shop. They can replace just the flex pipe alone, and not the whole system.
