Because they want to sell them. I would not buy a salvage car.

I have salvage title Toyota truck 1983, runs without a glitch. When I got it, didn't know what "salvage" meant...I guess was lucky. From what I understand, the term runs the gambit from 'written off by insurance after accident' to 'paid off by insurance after reported stolen then found', etc., etc. In later example, I suppose, insurance would not "own" the recovered vehicle, so they let original owner take it or they sold it to whoever is selling as "salvage".

Unless the vehicle was your own with history prior to damage, with extensive knowledge of the repair and title branding, stay away. Remember Used Car Salesmen got a bad wrap over time because of these types of cars. They were the ones who started cheap repairs, rolled back odometers, bait and switch. A salvaged car is toss up, 50/50 gamble that it was repaired correctly and with genuine parts. Insurance companies won’t insure it for full value or choose not to insure it at all. Some finance companies won’t finance a salvaged vehicle because it doesn’t hold its value. Imagine your salvaged vehicle paired with a similar non salvage vehicle, they will never be valued the same or seen the same. Resale is another issue and forget about ever wanting to trade it in. Way more bad than good.
