Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have the same problem. I changed the
timing bet on a 1991 Lexus ls400 and now
it won't start. Timing marks line up on cam
pulleys when crank is on TDC. Checked
the firing order and they are in the correct
positions. Need help

Forgot that I asked this but I figured it out. The rotors were 180 degrees off. Instructions I had followed were wrong or at least the photo of the rotors was either taken when the timing wasn't lined up or they had put the rotors on wrong. I started thinking it had to be something with the rotors since I was positive the timing lined up. I couldn't find anything that explained clearly how the rotors go on, including printed instructions I got from my mechanic. Finally I found someone online said he had the same problem. Turns out there is a tab on the back of the rotor that has to line up with a groove on the the cam pulley. If you look at the back of the rotor and the cam pulley, you can see which way it goes on. Once all the timing marks are aligned there is no question of how the rotors should be pointing if you make sure this tab and the groove are lined up. Once I figured this out, I had to take everything off down to the rotors, turned the 180 degrees, put it all back together again and it started right up. Hope this saves people from the frustration I went through.
