Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Dash lights may start to flicker and eventualy stay on if the ride is long enough. On occasion the dash lights will be on but go off when headlights are turned on. Fuses are good

Actually... this is somewhat "normal" for pre-1996 Lexus LS400's, especially the 93's and 94's for some reason. There can be a few different reason why this is so, but I think the main issue is within the circuit boards. I have the same problem as you and I'm getting it fixed as I type this. If you let it go too long, the instrument cluster might not come back on (until you repair it) and your odometer will not keep track of miles driven. There is a guy by the name of Jim Walker who is an electrical engineer and can fix the problem for a couple hundred bucks (opposed to 1400 - 2000 at a dealership). He is very experienced with this issue and has repaired dozens of instrument panels. If you google "Jim Walker Lexus" you should be able to find some contact information somewhere. The first step I would do is email him with the symptoms of the problem. Hope this helps and best of luck to you. - Mark

I have a 1990 Lexus LS400 which I am refurbishing / restoring I just put in a transmission refurbished from a 1991 it cost about 600 bucks. After that I noticed that the dashboard I mean the entire dashboard speedometer etcetera but not the warning lights would start flashing at first it would show up with nothing then the needles would show up and then finally the numbers would appear blinking and then as you drove it would correct itself however when you adjust the brightness knob for your dash lights nothing happens. Since I just had the transmission installed is this something related to that or is this a new problem. I was thinking electrical or control module.
