1995 Lexus ls400

Asked by ls400lover Jan 28, 2019 at 11:55 AM about the 1995 Lexus LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently tuned up my 95 LS400. New wires, plugs, timing belt, waterpump...
Starts and runs like a kitten!  However, my gas mileage has gone way down.
I'm at a half of a tank and only 128 miles.  No error codes either.  Any ideas?

Your gas gauge might be giving a false reading. You should actually measure the fuel you are using at the gas pump. Also, the recent cold spell will make mpg drop quickly. Are you using remote start a lot more now? Have the fuel pressure tested. Too high will increase consumption. In some areas they are dumping a lot of alcohol in our gasoline, which has much less energy than "real" gasoline. Just a few ideas.

Toyota 1UZFE engine. Confirm the timing is not off (retarded) by one tooth! It will run sluggish and burn more fuel! Check the engine vacuum 19-21
