Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Vehicle was in the body shop and had dead battery.  Battery charger was hooked up to a 220 volt outlet and a fuse or relay blew but can find which one.  A 15 amp ign fuse blows as soon as you try to start.

By the way.........it is a 2006 Lexus SC 430 Hardtop convertible. I was at the shop when this happened and a spark came from the drivers side engine compartment but can't seem to find the short.

You can't plug a 120volt cord in to a 220 receptacle by mistake. Different plugs. What can happen is the charger was on wrong setting. Force boost or 24 volts or something, I dunno what but wrong. This should be the body shops responsibility.

Agree that it is shop problem but it is definitely is 220. Shop owner says there was a sign on that outlet and it was like that when he bought the shop. A puzzle to all of us. When the spark flew from the car it blew power cord out of the wall outlet and fried the charger.

Wow, - to state the obvious - somebody didn't know anything about AC wiring. But in ac wiring there is no single wire with 220 volts, buildings are wired for 220 using both legs of bus of 110 each + neutral and sometime + ground, but not all grounded. If we are talking about The USA here anyway. Now as for your car, sorry but I don't know what to suggest

It does have 220 going to outlet, has since been corrected by electrician. I am now down to finding a used or recondition ac control head. It runs fine, everything works except brake lights, interior lights, A/C. Anybody have a used or reconditioned ac control module?
