You need to have your computer scanned for codes. Since this is pre-1996, you'll need a computer that can attach to the Ford EEC-IV service port underneath the hood to get the codes, or else a quick-read technique if one is available using a series of keystarts.
probably an o2 sensor.. could be alot more.. but my v6 ran just fine with a light on n one o2 sensor was bad
take it to auto zone, they will scan it for free.
un hook your battery for a few minutes, this will reset your computer and the light should go out.

If your handy you can check your code with a paper clip. Method will be the same or similar as this. http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=13 You can also try going to www.tempotopaz.com (forums for tempos) and do a search.

Many times it's from overfilling the gas tank and messing up the evaporative emissions system. If you tend to "top off" an extra gallon or two, that might be the reason. Just drive it on the highway to clear the problem. A "tired" gas cap that doesn't fit tightly to close the evaporative emissions loop can also cause this, and may need to be replaced.
the service soon light is telling you it is time for a oil and filter change,on the tempo once the old filter is removed it will reset itself.
Im no car god, but i know that offten i can be a computer error. im not sure if this is the case with your but hope this can possibly help :)
Well If This Helps In Many Cases As Was Previously Stated The Computer Will Send An Invalid Error Code When Their Is Nothing Wrong With The Engine In The 90's Tempo's. My 94' Tempo GL 4Dr. Sedan Will Send Me A Check Engine Light About Every 30 Minutes Or So Of Drive Time But After About 3-5 Minutes It Will Disengage Again Then Relight Again After About Another 30 Minutes Of Drive Time My Mother The Previous Owner Took It In To The Ford Specialist's Here And Found Out The Chip Is Sending A False Check Engine Code And Their Is Nothing Wrong With Engine. So My Suggestion Is To Replace Or Reprogram The Computer Using Super Chips Computer Tool You Can Get One For Around $175 US Dollars.
hook an OBDII scanner tool to it. could be something as simple as the vaccum line popped off your EGR valve which is by ur throttle cable on top drivers side of engine. put any oil treatments in it? there are three sensors on that engine that may have theoil treatment stuck on em. worse case. mechanic or self diagnostic. tool is a pretty penny. better to pay mechanic.
If you need it read I have an tester but I am in S.E. Michigan I went and got one for twenty some bucks on sale at Auto store
My catalitic converter was removed without my consent when I took the car in for a new muffler. It was at that time the engine light went on. I actually was told these cc reduced car fuel economy. I now suspect the mechanic got compensation on the cc he removed and without consent. I will look at replacing the oxygen sensor.
