i have a 1997 plymouth voyager 2.4 i was driving and it shut off. Someone seems to think its the timing belt. My question is...Do i have to replace the water pump in order to change the timing belt?

there are normally belt and waterpump kits together, because if one goes bad is not long before the other one goes bad...penny wise and pound foolish isn't that the term...the stingy man is the one who ultimately pays the most....isn't that what click and clack used to say~

You might as well do both. The cover that houses the timing belt also covers the water pump. Save having to do it later. As the man above said; "Penny wise. Pound foolish'.

If the water pump has 85,00 miles on it, yes change it.
