With a cold engine fill with good anti freeze not 50/50. Let idle 10 min watch needlemay need thermostat.in fact get one

That sounds like a bad thermostat. A bad t-stat won't open until a lot of pressure builds up and then it opens, the engine cools and then it slams shut causing it to heat up again.
