Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought an 02 grand am to fix my 05. They are
both 3400 engines. We swapped the transmission
from the 02 put it in the 05 and it has a hard shift
and throwing an incorrect gear ratio code. We don't
know what we should do from here. I'm almost
98% sure it's a computer issue bc it runs
beautifully when you first start and get going but
once it gets to running temp it starts shifting hard.
The transmission shifted perfectly before we took
it out of the 02. Any advice?

Yes, your right the '05 doesn't like the vintage '02 transmission and its possible the ratio is different check that first..once its warmed up and in closed loop the computer is controlling the shifting on the old '02 transmission. Mix and match parts don't function well without the proper checking and design work. Ratio check first step.

Well I got an 05 transmission.. hopefully all we have to do is swap and be done
