will an ABS problem put the check engine on?

Asked by 1st_problem Jan 04, 2016 at 04:40 PM about the 2000 Pontiac Sunfire

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

cars service engine light is on, as well as the ABS and traction control light.
I scanned it and there were no engine codes but were ABS codes. Open or
short to an ABS sensor was the code. Will this put the engine light on or
should it only illuminate the ABS light? When I cleared the codes (did not
repair ABS problem) service engine light did not go out. Not even for a
second.

Yes it can. Also, check your wiring down by the wheels. Probably one of them rubbed near the connector.

The check engine light indicates a problem with the engine, There is a separate light for the ABS system. There is a problem with the ABS system that only will turn this light on. What was the code? I can tell you more about it.
