Im having the same problems and my battery is new but still wont start
What is the problem I have had 3 batteries in less than a year to see if it was the battery. Two of them had bad cells .Third is ok It still will not start sitting overnight. The place where i took it over a month ago took dash apart and took the sensor cluster out for me to unplug each night thinking that was the issue. No i still have to have it jumped every morning. I am so frustrated i want to scream it goes again tom. I am a woman but i feel it is the alternator. any in put greatly appreciated thank You

I have had the exact same issue with my 2004 ion. So 1st time eventually I was getting nothing for turnover the battery which wasn't old was getting drained rapidly instead of charging when enroute. It was alternator I replaced & things were fine. Then it started happening again, stupid side mount batteries I was in the process of moving/ living out of my car do stuff got shuffled in the trunk a lot. A friend of mine got smart took a look at the battery & it was amazing a jump even was working cause the battery had almost completely become unscrewed. Now experiencing again however battery works lights still work engine seems like it's gonna turn over & has a metal on metal scrapping noise then doesn't turn all the way over. Do I was stranded last night. I have a new starter coming in the morning I'm thinking that's it this time as check engine won't go off either I have a new gas cap coming as well didn't know broken gas cap was causing so many issues
