2004 Saturn Ion- Knocking Noise behind glove box

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
After a perfectly normal drive to work, I left and turned my car on only to hear a knocking noise coming from what seems to be somewhere behind the glove box. My immediate thought was the heater core or motor blower, but there was no condensation or sweet smell, the heat and air conditioning both work properly, and there is no change in the pace/loudness of the knocking when I turn the ac/heat up or down or completely off. Additionally, the knocking noise is heard from the minute I turn the ignition, until I turn the car off and it does not change dramatically with normal driving. Any idea what this could be?

Sounds like it could be under the hood, possibly a loose or broken engine mount, something could be hitting the firewall making you think it's coming from the glove box area.
sounds alot like an issue with your heater blend door.
Thanks Robert, that is exactly what it was. Unfortunately, the whole front panel has to be taken off to replace this small, low cost, piece.

My 2003 Saturn Ion also has this knocking and it stops when I turn on the recycle air vent, just like with Marie's 09 Aura
