subaru outback trouble starting mystery

Asked by Willd13 Sep 28, 2020 at 11:42 PM about the 2000 Subaru Outback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my 1999 subaru outback has a new battery and trouble
starting. We thought it was the alternater at first but the
battery isn't dead so then we thought it might be the starter
but it sounds fine when it does start. When I turn the key
sometimes my car starts and sometimes the lights will turn
on but there will be no sound from the engine. When my car
does this it still starts when jump started. We are very
confused and have no idea what could be wrong.

If it starts when you play with the key, the ignition switch is bad.
