Car won't stay started

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 1995 Subaru outback and I
can't get it to stay started. It's not my
battery, starter, alternator, fuel filter
or fuel pump. My gas tank is full and
even if I hold the gas pedal down it
doesn't stay started. It sort of
hiccups and then dies. My spark
plugs seem to be firing fine and my
wires are practically new. What else
could it be? And can I fix it myself or
do I have to get a mechanic to do it?

Maybe your idle control (idle set too low)? Not sure, just a suggestion.
Maybe it could be your E.C.U (electronic control unit) also reffered to as the vehicles brain or the vehicles computer.
THE CAR STARTS AND RUNS JUST A LITTLE YOU GIVE IT SOME GAS IT QUITS . could be the fuel pump relay switch located on the drivers side behind the plastic kick pannel its perty hard to get to it is away up in there.... or mabe a bad pump some times a pump will run just for a second or two and stop. bad pump or bad relay or a stoped up fuel filter. remove the line check the fuel flow coming out of your fuel filter.be careful if it is working proper there will be allot of gas coming out you do dont wont to start a fire..... if the gas is not comeing out sujest you check the relay and pump.AND CHANGE THEM if they prove to be bad and dont work you will have to dig for a nother problem . they are lots of test to be done like sensors. ecu idle control shorts in wires timmimng belt just a few of many.

Does it start & run until you let the key go away from the "crank' position? If so, It's either the ignition switch, or somthing interrupting the circuit between the "run" position on the switch and the ign coil. My bet would be on the switch - especially if it just came up out of the blue.
This just started happening to my 1997 subaru outback legacy this morning. Did you ever figure out what it was?
