First thing that comes to mind is a plugged catalytic converter. Worse case is worn piston rings causing engine to lose compression. Any real strong gasoline smell from the oil? This is extreme though. My OUTBACK is new, but I havea friend who'se owned several older model outbacks and logged over 400,000 miles before loss of cylinder compression became an issue regarding lack of power. He also experienced a transmission related problem that wouldn't allow the car to achieve highway speeds. Ultimately, a trip to a local Subaru dealer should yield a proper diagnosis of the fault. Hope this helps and Good Luck
