Is 146,000 miles a lot for a Toyota?

Asked by EGawl99 Jul 19, 2017 at 04:12 PM about the 2003 Toyota RAV4

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I know that Toyotas are good cars and a higher mileage is not as big of a deal
for them but is 146,000 way too high to last me for a while? It is a 2003 RAV4
and seems to be in good condition-no rust- but I would like to have it for at
least 4 years if not more

It will keep up for 10 times that, Good luck let know. PS Toyota average miles are 1 000 000 depending on the driver and service records. Good Luck.

It doesn't matter what it is; was the car maintained well up until now. Deferred maintenance will catch up to even the most reliable cars. And 1.46 million miles, Guru9279V? Don't lapse into hyperbole.

Never buy from a dealership a used car. Your paying a huge mark up. Toyota last they know it and I think that is 5k too much Go to Scotty YouTube channel and look at his videos on used card, buying from dealer and why Toyota are the best https://youtu.be/xkdV1IPcJ44

And yes, I did all required maintainence My 2006 Rav 4 Started Burning Oil at 100000 miles. There was a service bulletin out on this but Toyota tested it and said it wasn't burning enough oil to be repaired. At 148000 miles the transmission died. Left me stranded by the side ot the road. At that point it was burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles so the car was scrapped. It was a Toyota, I expected more. Very disappointed.

I have rav4 2008 and it has 190k miles on it. Our family used it as family car since we were little and now I have it. I'm not sure if it has been maintained well, and it did get in few accidents. It cost me almost 3k in repairs in last 3 years but I got it for free as hand me down so since I'm broker, I'm sticking to it. I hope it last me few more years with no major problems tho.

Wow, I am feeling pretty cheated about this. My 2006 RAV 4 died today, it threw a rod. My last oil change 2 weeks ago, the dealer service department warned me about it. We got a second opinion on it yesterday, they agreed. The mileage was under 128000. I am reluctant to look at another one, even though it has been such a good car. Anyone have any thoughts about why this might have happened? I NEVER missed a service!

I have a 2010 RAV4, just rolled over 170,000 miles. Regular maintenance has been kept up. New alternator at about 120,000 miles. Other than that it runs great, Hope to get another 170,000 out of it.

Toyota RAV4 from 2006-09 mostly 4 cylinders have serious issues called engine excessive oil consumption. Eventually, if the engine was not serviced at its interval from the Toyota dealership, might die soon. Its inevitable, reason why you will see sales of Toyota RAV4 06-09 everywhere at low price. Mostly 2.4 litter engines are effected. Later on Toyota brought 2.5 litter revised engines which are most likely flawless. Thats why peope with rav4 from 2010-13 tend to have better service than people with prior versions. 2000-05 RAVs are made in Japan which are Kaizan quality one of the best era of cars in Toyota history.

My 2011 RAV4 V6 Limited with the preminum package has 257,000 and is still in great shape and still runs like a bat out of hell! I still trust this to take a several thousand mile road trip anywhere here in the US.

To cwheye2118: I believe you should have your tranny fluid changes every 30,000-40,000 depending on what your driving conditions are. I am a serious road tripper and have mine changes every 35,000 miles or so.

I have a 2011 toyota rav4 and i think the hype is overrated. At 90k i had an electrical problem with the battery. At 140k 3 hoses blew up and shocks started leaking. At 170k the front wheel bearings needed to get replaced and probably 10k after that the rear bearings needed to get replaced. At 200k sensor broke and major electrical problem started. And these were all expensive repairs some repairs cost me thousands. It’s still running at 220k but now it sounds like it’s going to need a new transmission lol I’m over it! If you want a good brand then definitely go with a honda! I had a 2006 civic and that thing last me 300k with minor repairs and it was still running strong after i sold it.
