I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla and it doesn't reverse unless on a slant. What's the problem with my car?

Car will shift into reverse but will not move in reverse. When I press the gas once shifted in reverse the engine just runs as if its in neutral.

well it seems like our reverse gear has went out.i would have a shop look at it to be sure but that is most likely the problem.
