Car wont start. shows 25 volts across the battery, and the alternator.

jump started it yesterday. previous days could tell juice was dropping. Enough juice to lower electric windows. Lights all work. Now when turing the key, nothing happens. no clicks, nothing.

What did you use to check the voltage> Was the device set right? I ask because I agree 100% with Tom, no way should it show 25 volts

If it is an auto... make sure it is in park. One of my.. more un-car minded friends called me to give him a jump start, turns out the battery was fine, he left it in drive.
Lol, 25v is FAR too much juice. 12.6 is perfect while off. 13-15 while running thru all rpm ranges. If a regulator goes out and stops regulating the alternator it can overcharge the battery but 25v is ALOT. Maybe fine if this was an old diesel truck.
Yeah, Andrew, I have been watching this thread to see what people say. I had a 1976 Ford F-250, 360, and the regulator went bad and over-charged the battery, first I smelled something I could not figure out, a horrible smell, then opened the hood and my battery was boiling over and I figured it out right then. It was a '76 with that box-external regulator, new one of those and a battery and all was well.
