new 8.2 10 bolt posi carrier for 69 chevelle doesnt fit. What am i missing??

Asked by toolman420 Jan 17, 2017 at 10:15 AM about the 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a new 8.2 in 10 Bolt posi carrier to replace the stock 8.2 10 bolt lim slip carrier. After changing the ring gear over it wouldn't fit in the differential. Attached is a pic of the old and new side by side. The height of the ring is different. What went wrong when ordering the new carrier? What do I need to look for when buying a new one that will work? Thanks, Tim

The two carriers are clearly different. I don't know what you ordered but you will need to order one for your year car. It is possible the rear axle was swapped out at one time so look for identifying marks on it.

You brought a series 3 carrier which is good for gear ratio 3.08 & up your old carrier is a series 2 for 2.56 -2 73 ratio you have to change the gears
