Removing a catalytic converter

Asked by Tank1968 Sep 11, 2019 at 07:39 PM about the 1975 Chevrolet Camaro

Question type: General

I have a 1975 Chevrolet Camaro it
has a straight 8 in it and it is a
completely rebuilt motor with only
a hundred miles on it but it keeps
choking out and the mechanic
suggested that I remove the
catalytic converter I am
completely exempt from smog I
have the license plates and I am
it's a classic vehicle so I am
exempt does that make me
exempt from having to have a
catalytic converter as well or
would I be illegal if I got rid of the
catalytic converter

1 Answer

A straight 8 from what? A 38 Buick? Check your states smog laws about legality. California is smog exempt from 1975 or older.
