Question type: General

I have a freind who claims to have a 351CJ in his `68 Mustang. Is that possible. Supposedly original.

According to fordclassics.com McDuff, these were the available engine options. Although there were several CIs available in 1968 none of them seemed to be the 351. I can't find a source on the net that says there were 351s in any 1968 Mustangs (my first car by the way ... in the ever popular seafoam green!) 1968 Mustang # 200 c.i. @ 115 h.p. w/8.8:1 compression with one barrel carburator. # 289 c.i. @ 195 h.p. w/8.7:1 compression with two barrel carburator. # 302 c.i. @ 210 h.p. w/9.0:1 compression with two barrel carburator. # 302 c.i. @ 230 h.p. w/10.0:1 compression with four barrel carburator. # 390 c.i. @ 325 h.p. w/10.5:1 compression with four barrel carburator. # 427 c.i. @ 390 h.p. w/10.9:1 compression with four barrel carburator. # 428 c.i. @ 335 h.p. w/10:5:1 compression with four barrel carburator. # Three body types available: 2 dr. hardtop, 2 dr. convertible and a 2 dr. fastback. # Only the GT models received the 390 c.i. 1969 Mustang # 200 c.i. @ 120 h.p. w/8.8:1 compression with one barrel carburator. # 250 c.i. @ 155 h.p. w/9.0:1 compression with one barrel carburator. # 302 c.i. @ 210 h.p. w/9.5:1 compression with two barrel carburator. # BOSS 302 c.i. @ 290 h.p. w/10.5:1 compression with four barrel carburator. # 351 c.i. @ 250 h.p. w/9.5:1 compression with two barrel carburator. # 351 c.i. @ 290 h.p. w/10.7.1 compression with four barrel carburator. # 390 c.i. @ 320 h.p. w/10.5:1 compression with four barrel carburator. # 428 c.i. @ 335 h.p. w/10:6:1 compression with four barrel carburator. # 428 c.i. @ 335 h.p. w/10:6:1 compression with four barrel carburator. # BOSS 429 c.i. @ 375 h.p. w/10.5:1 compression with four barrel carburator. # Only some of the 428 c.i. Hi McDuffik49, I researched the '68 Mustang and although i am not willing to say that there was ABSOLUTELY not a '68 Mustang with a 351cj i have found no evidence that ford produced 351 in the 1968 Mustang.

The 351 was not put into any Mustang until 1969. So, if he has a 351 in his '68, it's not original.

hes a hamburg, theres no such thing as a 351cj, only 428 and 429. 351 didnt come out til 69

The only 351 available in 1969 was the windsor (its inaugural year). The cobra jet didnt come out untl 1971.

My mom had a 1968-and-a-half maroon fastback 351. It had the 351 engine, but no stripes (unlike the Mach 1 351 or the Boss 302) and was maroon. Similar to the 1969 429, but with no hood scoop or front spoiler and plainer wheels, with smaller Michelin tires. 1968 style dash (less padded) and interior. Bought from a San Rafael CA dealer. Never seen or heard of another like it.
