2007 ford escape

i have a 2007 ford escape 4 wheel drive . I just had the alternator replaced with
a rebuild one from autozone. took it for a drive after getting a new battery and
iwithin 5 minutes i lost all dash lights an tail lights. and it blew the cap off the
battery where the battery acid is. but after i put it back on it started right up. Can
the alternator be creating to mch power do i need to change it again

With the engine on, you can probe the battery terminals with your voltmeter. It should read close to 14V, anymore or less than 13V , you have an issue. Wear eye protection when you do this, you don't want acid in your eyes from the battery and stand off to the side.
