Why is the 2006 Ford Escape noisy? Is it because of the wheels? What do I do?

Hi, There is alot of factors that come into play when it comes to "wheel noise" If your lucky, it could be just the tires being worn or just a cheap tire in general. Other factors that would no be so good would be the CV axel and or the hub assembely

i currently own a 2006 Ford Escape XLT FWD, and i dont think it is noisy. I have gone quit fast and its quit quiet in my ears. p.s (speed was 155kmh)

Let me guess, you have Continental tires on it? I had Continental on my 2004 Escape and now on my 2008 Tribute. They were the worst tires ever to be put on a vehicle! Just put Good year tires on my Tribute and its great. The noise it made sounded like all 4 wheel bearings were shot.

I agree, I have a 2005 with Continental tires and they are obnoxiously noisy. I think I'll try Michelin's or BF Goodrich next.

get rid of those Continental Tires. they ARE LOUD! get some Kumho Solus Kr21 Tires

My 2006 Ford Escape XLS has a problem with the tires "cupping". They wear in a pattern that causes the tires to hum like a big truck. Feel the tires to see if they are not wearing flat. Take your car to a tire shop and have them check the tires, usually they have more tread in the middle. All you can do is rotate the fronts to the rear. Or buy new tires. I think the rear end is too light and the tires wear poorly.

Standard. 4x4 AWD,Thank you for your replies, if I accelerate "gently" from a dead stop the "noise" is barely audible or not heard at all. But, if I accelerate normally from a dead stop, such as when leaving a red light and proceeding on green, and when i turn right and left the noise is there and very noticeable.

Sounds like cv shafts.

Do you think is something that i can fix myself.

It''s not a difficult job, I guess that depends on your mechanical ability. Its usually just a matter of taking off the tires, then the brake assembly, then usually just a strut or ball joint. then it just pops out of the transaxle with a pry bar.

I have a 2006 Ford Escape XLT - I had new Firestone tires put on in March of this year. There is a humming noise coming from the driver's side front tire when going over 45 mph. What could be causing this?
