the dome light stays on and the door ajar light stays off when the car is off and the door is open

2006 ford escape.  car is off, open door, the door ajar light does not light.  turn on the key and the door ajar light doesn't go off.  also the dome light stays on doors open or shut.

where is the problem

First I would check your dimmer switch. Make sure it is not turned all the way up to the max position. If light remains on then I suspect a door switch is either bad or needs lubrication.

Turn car on. Place in D. Touch light once. Turn car off. Lock doors.
