Cobalt (2007) problems

Asked by Kaylan Mar 14, 2017 at 05:16 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On day while driving my 2007 4 door chevy
cobalt the dashboard read 69 degrees. I
got nervous and took to firestone, they told
me my water pump has a slit in it & I need
a new one. (When I drove it home from
firestone my car read 40 degrees and
exceetno higher than 50 degrees) I took it
somewhere else and they didn't think it
was my water pump but was not sure.
What is wrong with my car? :((

Is this actual Fahrenheit reading? If so the car's engine is not warming up. It should run at 195° F. That would be a bad thermostat causing this.

Yes!! My cars dashboard would read 69 degrees F. Someone else said my car should be running at the temperature also. So no water pump?

Are you sure you are looking at the coolant temp? Is it the outside air temp that you see?

No water pump if the engine is running cool. Like FOR asked or pointed out, make sure you are looking at the engine temperature gauge. If so then the thermostat would need to be changed out so the engine can run at 195°F

Tell me tho, do you get hot heat out of the heater? And another thing, is that 69° in Celsius is 154° in Fahrenheit, which still would mean you need the thermostat changed. Check to see if the gauge is reading Fahrenheit, or Celsius.

I believe it was the car temperature only because the further and faster I drove the higher the temp would go but if I stopped the temperature would either go down or stay stagnant. It's in Celsius! Is changing the thermostat a expensive process

No it is not that expensive. But have a mechanic do it for you, so it is done right.
