Transmission hesitates, Is the repair reasonable and where should I take it?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The transmission will run fine around town but if I go over about 50 mph it
will start hesitating at changes from 1st to second... a little less from 2nd to
3rd and minor from 2nd to 3rd. If I shut the engine off for a few seconds
and start it again the problem is gone until I run 50mph +/- again. This
started when I had a rear seal leak. The seal leak has been repaired. The
leak was 3 months ago and 2500 miles ago. It has not gotten any worse.

What do you mean by hesitating ? Long shits. Stays in gear to long ( like maybe by playing with gas pedal to get it to shift). Does it act like it goes in neutral for a second are RPM go up before it shifts. 4L60E transmission are a good trans as a whole. Pretty easy to figure out. Just need a little more description of what's going on

When accelerating from a stop it will shift but it seems to lose connection for a second and then bangs when it reconnects. I now know when it will shift and I will let off the gas a bit so it does not bang as much.

So would you say it is shifting to hard or going into neutral for a second before it goes into gear

You could try a transgo 4L60E shift correction kit. It might do the trick. You need to remove the valve body but not the transmission. But you might have internal damage and might need a rebuild. That trans kit is around 50 bucks and couple hours to do it
