1978 Ford Bronco Ranger battery or alternator?

Asked by Ev Oct 10, 2018 at 03:49 PM about the 1978 Ford Bronco

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Installed a power master one wire 150amp
alternator on truck that I'm upgrading with
electronics. I'm using a regular gold battery
from Walmart. When I start truck and press
on gas it sounds like the alternator is
squealing. Also noticed the battery wasn't
charging after 2 stops withing 20 miles of
driving.

The belt is slipping, you can check by turning on all the loads like headlights, heater/a-c blower on high wait several minutes to let the battery voltage drop then start the engine rev the engine a few times then turn everything including the engine off, carefully feel the alternator pulley if it's hot the belt is slipping if it is.replace the belt and tighten very tight again be CAREFUL DON'T GET BURNED
