Mold/Mildew smell

Asked by 123gogreen Jun 04, 2009 at 08:23 PM about the 2007 Honda S2000

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

In the past few weeks my S2000 has developed a very strong smell strongest when you first open the doors.  Nothing has spilled, it has not been open to rain and is garage kept.  Any suggestions?

my car had that problem too, although i attributed it to the cloth interior sucking up damp in the garage... check your trunk, the smell could be leaking into the cabin from there. my friend spilled diff fluid in my trunk and i could smell it everytime i drove. best thing to do if you cant find the source of the smell is to vacuum it out - i steam vacc'd mine - and give her some air. take the top off and take her for a spin, weather is nice enough :)

Like previously stated, the trunk leaking is a known problem, but an easy fix. Try going on www.s2ki.com and searching it, lots of info there.

Did you find a solution? I have the same problem. I even had my car detailed and steam cleaned...but after only a few days, the smell was back! My clothes and papers smell like the car when I get out. It's gross and embarassing for a girl. I don't want anyone getting in my car. :(

not sayin this is it but I had a s2000 some in the shop for a horrible smell, had to take the trunk completely apart to find the dead mouse under the convertible top. lol

The air ducts for the air conditioner could be the problem. Although I do not know that it is applicable to this particular car, many cars have that problem, it's the first place id check. The easiest way to fix it is simply to run the heater for a long time - if the smell changes (gets worse or alleviates) you've found your problem
