How to wear down paint spots?

Asked by Chloë Jul 31, 2013 at 09:59 PM about the 1999 Honda CR-V

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1999 red Honda CRV has some long scrapes and dog claw scratches on one side. I
made the mistake of painting over the scratches/scrapes with red honda touch-up paint
(supposed to match my car) but it is brighter than the faded shade of my car and it looks
really stupid. is there any way I can deteriorate or wear down the strokes of touch up
paint i added a couple years ago? it really bugs me.  thanks

You could take it to a professional detailer have them wet sand the area which will smooth it out and buff the whole car. Unless you just want the touch up paint gone totally, then apply some laquer thinner to a rag wipe off the touch up paint.

How much does the look bother you versus the cost to have it fixed ? I would say leave it alone until you decide to complete a restoration of the car, then worry about it.
