I think that is way too high Jim. I found all sorts of claims on the net but most say 3,500 pounds. I would not tow more than 2,000 pounds.

Thank You very much for your help, hopefully this will help. Settle a Dispute, between Me and Childhood Friend. But to no avail,he still believes that it is not possible. For a S10 Pickup to be able to pull,a 14' Fish Boat and Trailer. Which ways a lot less then 2,000 lbs.,without it Destroying the Transmission. All I can say is,that some people just won't believe the Facts. When it is Staring them, right in the Face.

Install an aftermarket transmission cooler if you are concerned about over heating the transmission. Keep a close eye on the ATF color.

6,000 lbs is pretty optimistic on GM's part. Their full size trucks barely tow that much at least for the light duty ones.

My manual for my ZR2 (Highrider) Sonoma says 5900 lbs. I tow a 3000 lb (loaded) Jayco SLX Lite 154BH camper with a weight distributing hitch and I'm able to cruise the highways at 70-75 effortlessly. I barley know it's back there until I hit a hill. Then I have to take it out of OD. Of course the ZR2 option comes from the factory with an oil cooler and remote mount, auxiliary trans cooler and power steering cooler, 4 wheel discs, 3" factory lift with a larger rear from the K1500 and a locking diff. I get about 14-15 mpg towing unless it's really hilly. Then it goes down to about 10 mpg. Unladen I get between 19-22 mpg hwy. Understand the 4.3 Vortec V6 is the same they put in the full size p/u trucks along with the 4L60E trans that's VERY VERY capable as long as you have a good trans cooler!

I regularly tow a 8x10 cargo trailer 2,200 pounds I also towed this all the way from Portland, Oregon to California. I wouldn't recommend this as it can only pull hills in 1st or 2nd gear up hills. I do drive a stick not the automatic, clutch was fine and still is. I do dump runs with a small trailer with about 1,200 pounds in it it 4,600 total weight with trailer and truck empty about 6,000 loaded and it seems to do ok stopping is the issue imo just takes time and there is no way with that load to stop quickly. I would suggest if you plan to keep the trailer a long time Hydraulic Surge Brakes!
