fuel gauge 96chevy 5.7

I have a 96 Chevy pickup just replaced gas tank
and fuel pump read fine once I added about 5
gallons of gas after I filled it up the needle flipped
past full and wind go back to normal ?

This is a bad power (+) connection on the gas gauge circuit. Check the wiring starting at the gas tank. The power wire is disconnected or the gauge sending unit in the tank is bad. It's usually a broken power wire though. A bad ground connection will force the gauge to empty or below empty. Hope that helps! Jim
