will a 4.3 from a 1996 s10 4 wheel drive work in a 1996 s10 2 wheel drive

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I need to change the engine in my 1996 S10 2 wheel drive. I found one out of a 1996 4 wheel drive but I was told that a 4wheel drive engine is different than a 2 wheel drive. Is this correct or will a 4wheel drive engine work?

There are two engine codes for the 4.3l V-6. (X) and (W). Check your VIN codes to see what engines you are dealing with. If they are the same, then a direct swap is possible, but I understand that the oil pans are different from the 2-wheel drive to the 4-wheel drive. Another note is that you will want to use the corresponding ECM if they are different, but a swap is still possible. If you do some research on some message boards, there are plenty of people that have done the swaps. Good luck!
I think they are both w code so I should be good to go. Thank you very much for your answer.
I've done this swap, its a direct fit. The ecm is the same on either engine also so don't sweat that.
I've got a 93 s10 blazer 2wd and I'm putting in an engine from a 97 4wd will it work I know the oil pan will probably be different and would need to change that so will the ecm be the same as well thank you chevytruckwheels
