Chevy S10 Overehated, temp guage is stuck at redlined. Won't start

Asked by Brandie Jun 14, 2016 at 06:45 PM about the 1991 Chevrolet S-10

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My teenage son's 1991 Chevy S10 truck overheated horribly on the highway. He didn't notice until it died completely. Had to tow it home. Radiator was cracked - we just finished replacing it. Truck still won't start so I'm hoping for a suggestion on what to do next. The temp gauge in the dash is still stuck at the redline (max temp) point after several days, so I assume there's a temp sensor that fried? Is that the next logical replacement or am I missing a step? (I'm not a car girl). The truck acts like it wants to start but doesn't turn over. Appreciate any help!

yap, you need to do compression test . I will say you need to do the head cylinder gasket as well. the head gasket is done. remove the water cap, fill it up and swing the motor , you must see bubbles coming from it, check the oil as well for a with milky colour
