2005 Tacoma automatic: my 4 wheel drive light will flash but it never kicks in any suggestions?

I have tried driving slow and fast and when I move it into H4 the symbol will only blink and never actually kick into 4 wheel drive.

well in my truck when i switch to four wheel drive i have to switch into neutral after switching it and then it actually switches into 4wd

nortel engage back up a foot or two then drive ..... same way uningage
