faulty drivers door window

Asked by brian08 May 15, 2016 at 08:46 AM about the 1999 Toyota Corolla

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driver's door window moves both up and down, but only about 2 !inches at a
time!  If the switch is released and then pressed again, it will move another 2
inches. this will continue until it reaches the bottom (or top). I have replaced
the switch, but this makes no difference. The passenger window works
perfectly. Any suggestions, please?

Thanks Tom. The window is not binding. The distance moved appears to be from one revolution of the larger cog in the motor, and appears to be an electrical stop. The motor also appears not to be binding. Tomorrow I will attempt to strip the motor to check all contacts.

It's the resistor in the motor. I fixed mine by soldering a tiny wire to bypass the resistor plates. Still works after some years. http://oi47.tinypic.com/332111u.jpg
