Temp gauge on 1997 toyota camry

Asked by Daniel Sep 06, 2019 at 07:25 PM about the 1997 Toyota Camry

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The temp gauge in my 1997 toyota Camry always
reads in the middle, even when cold. I changed the
thermostat and that didn't help. The heater still
works and the car doesn't overheat or leak. I do
sometimes smell antifreeze while driving. Any
ideas?

likely have a leak around your heater core leaking into the air box and the odor getting into the air flow. Check your passenger floor carpet/padding for damness, and place a catch pan under the condensation drain from your tube under your car to see if antifreeze is coming from there as well. Also check heater hoses going to the firewall and around the engine for signs of leaks.
